According to the telecommunications company, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has withdrawn the GH8.2 billion tax liability it had imposed on MTN Ghana.
Reports state that after "extensive" discussions with authorities, the tax imposition was cancelled.
Additionally, skullnewportal.blogspot.com has learned that the state's tax collection agency's earlier assessment was based on incorrect information and reached the incorrect conclusion.
According to the audit, which purported to cover the years 2014 to 2018, MTN Ghana had allegedly understated its revenue by 30%.
The mother company of MTN Ghana released a statement on Friday, February 3 that read, "Shareholders are advised that following extensive and fruitful discussions held during this 21-day period between MTN Ghana, MTN, and relevant authorities in Ghana, the GRA has on 03 February 2023 fully withdrawn the Assessment."
"MTN would like to reaffirm its commitment to the highest standards of tax compliance and good corporate citizenship to shareholders and other stakeholders.
"MTN and MTN Ghana would like to thank all stakeholders involved for the support and collaboration to achieve this peaceful and mutually satisfying full withdrawal of the Assessment."
The business, which has its global headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa, declared that "it remains confident in the Ghanaian economy and its future prospects and maintains its planned investment and development initiatives over the medium-term to drive digital and financial inclusion."
