UPDATE ON THE SPACO RIOT: IMPLIEDLY GAY STUDENTS TO SEE PSYCHIATRISTS |
The Volta Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service has said that it will seek assistance from psychiatrists for the students of the St. Pauls' Senior High School in the Volta Region who were allegedly gay.
This, according to the GES, is done to prevent allegations of student involvement in the crime from being ignored.
This follows a recent disturbance at St. Paul's Senior High School, which was caused by the administration's reluctance to properly discipline accused gay students.
The Deputy Regional Director of Education Dickson Ogordor noted in a Citi News interview that certain
"Sodomy and lesbianism are criminal offenses, although Ghana's constitution guarantees all rights,"
Therefore, it is challenging for us to declare someone to be homosexual or lesbian, he stated.
He clarified that the committee would make sure that any gay student found to be at fault would be dealt with in accordance with the school's policies.
"If that is so persistent, we'll ask the parent to take their kids to a psychiatrist or any psychologist for treatment," he said.
